The ESI 2000 and ESI 4000 use 72-pin SIMM modules. These samplers can have up to 128MB of RAM.

General Requirements:

• 72-pin SIMM
• 70 nS or faster access time
• Parity or Non-Parity design
• EDO or Non-EDO (Extended Data Out)
• Glass Epoxy material, manufactured to JEDEC specifications

Most 72-pin SIMMs are standard configuration and are compatible. There is one particular and rare style of SIMM called "ECC" type RAM has a different circuit design that will not work with E-MU samplers.

The following information provides important details regarding RAM type and configuration for these samplers:

1. Each of these samplers uses 2 RAM SIMM slots with a total capacity of up to 128MB.
2. Each one of these slots could hold up to a 64MB RAM SIMM.
3. You can use 4MB, 16MB or 64MB SIMMs in these products.
4. If you fill one slot only with a RAM SIMM, use slot 1. RAM will not be detected if it is only installed in SLOT 2.
5. If you install two similar sized RAM SIMMs, install one in each of the slots and the total memory will be the sum of the two RAM SIMMs. For example, two 16MB SIMMs will provide 32MB of sample memory.
6. If you install two different size RAMs, install the LARGER size SIMM in SLOT 1. The SMALLER sized RAM should be installed in SLOT 2.
7. When you install two different size RAM, your total amount of RAM will be the capacity of SLOT 1 plus HALF of the capacity of slot 2. For example, if you install a 64MB SIMM in slot 1 and a 16MB RAM in slot 2, you will have 72MB of total memory.

While 72-pin SIMMs are no longer used in today's tech products, they are still readily available. If you do not have a reputable supplier in your area we recommend using an Internet search engine to find RAM for your E-MU product. E-MU Systems Inc. does not make or sell RAM. Due to manufacturing tolerences it is possible for RAM to meet the above specifications and still not work correctly. Because of this we recommend you purchase RAM that can be refunded or exchanged.
